About Me - Baby Smitty

I'm growing strong and taking charge. As of April 9, 2010, I'm a 10 1/2" long, 14 ounces dude or dudette in training. Mom & Dad tried to figure out that riddle, but I'm not ready to share my secret yet!!! Check back frequently as my stats will be updated on a monthly basis. Since I don't have any usable digits at the moment, my soon to be mom, Kim Dennis Smith, is chronicling my/our adventures on my behalf. You can consider her my "ghost writer".

March/April 2010 - Racking Up Frequent Flyer Miles

Hi folks,

Whoa! I think I'm still recovering from the whirlwind North America tour Mom took me on. March was filled with lots of travel to various west coast cities. We spent a week visiting San Francisco, LA, Costa Mesa and we even made a sojourn to Salt Lake City. While in Salt Lake City, Mom decided to visit the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and tour the Mormon HQ. I guess it was good....I didn't see much! I took that time to take a nap while she trooped through and toured the city.

We followed that west coast trip with one to visit our friends to the north, Toronto to be exact. We learned that the accurate, local pronunciation is "To-Ron-No" (the last "T" is silent. Random piece of info for my followers :-)

I must say, the cuisine during those trips was fantastic. We had some great fish dishes, nice steak, Mom's really trying to expose me to a variety of food so that she doesn't end up with a finicky eater.....like she was as a kid. Seriously mom, white rice & butter?! That does not a meal make. Yuck! If mom keeps feeding me the good eats, she better watch out, I just might break family budget. She better get me used to a champagne taste and when I arrive she only got beer money!!!

The final trip we took was to the land of 1000 lakes. Do you know which state that is? I'll give you another hint:
"1999"
"When Doves Cry"
"Little Red Corvette"
"The Artist Formerly Known As....."

Yes folks, it's the home of the Purple One, the magnificent, PRINCE. Mom took me to Minneapolis, Minnesota for a few days while she worked. Unfortunately, we didn't get any encounters with PRINCE, but we did attend a fashion event with one of mom's colleagues. Who knew Minnesota had a fashion week? See, travel is very much an educational experience!!!

As some of you know, my mom loves bags, shoes and jewelry....guess that makes her a bonafide GIRL!!!!!!!!!! Must be in the DNA somewhere. LOL. Luv ya ma! Well, at fashion week, wouldn't you know Mom instantly hits it off with a handbag designer Kim Foss for Carrie Cordelia Handbags - must be something in the name! (Don't worry fashionistas, there's no website yet, but Mom will keep you posted, I'm sure). So Mom likes the bags so much, she convinces the designer that she needs to create a diaper bag since Mom can't find one she likes. Wouldn't you know, the designer took up mom's suggestion and now Mom will provide consultative feedback on the diaper bag's design. My momma, is a networker - always "ON" wherever she goes! I hope some of her mojo rubs off on me.

Well, that's it for now folks, next time I'll post some of my close-ups with Mr. DeMille.

See you around the web!

January & February 2010 – Growing Pains…Or Not…

January passed without much to do about nothing. As long as Mom ate every 3 hours, life was good. When she allegedly forgot (Don’t know how she could!), I would have to show her who’s boss and call in favors from my pals Nausea and Queasiness. They excel at getting anyone's attention!

All in all, she was getting better at being pregnant. I know she was missing her red wine, and salmon – Mom can’t STAND the smell of Salmon being cooked anymore! The night Dad cooked it for dinner was NOT GOOD to say the least. But again, she overcame it and was doing alright.

As I was fast developing, I was really relying on Mom for not only my food source but for energy as well. As a result, Mom’s own energy was being depleted. And the woman who most consider a relative of the Energizer Bunny or as others affectionately call “PERKY”, was running on low. She was sleepy in the afternoons, wanting to take naps, but unfortunately she couldn’t do that at work. Somehow, the amazing MOM powered through it all and would make it home in time to crash in the evenings. Miraculously, somewhere in between all this lack of energy, increased tiredness and naptimes, Mom continued to power through grad school at NYU. What a woman! I just hope I get some of her stamina. :-)

The only bad time during my first 12 weeks in the Uterverse was February 1st – sorry Cousin Chantelle, I know it’s your birthday, but it was a bad day for Mom and I….we ended up in the ER at Robert Wood Johnson, hooked up to an IV after getting two different doses of nausea medicine – who knew it came in liquid form!

Mom had a bad case of Gastroenteritis – which in layman’s terms means she had a bad dose of Montezuma’s revenge (Poop & Puke) without the fun of actually going to Mexico!! As much as I felt bad for Mom, I was really in a bad state. Even though she ate dinner that Sunday night, it never made it to me – though it made a reappearance later on that evening in the guest bathroom!!!

After all the drama of the ER, mom couldn’t eat solid foods for about 3 days. Soup and water became our best friends. We actually lost weight the next time we went to see Dr. Bridges…..but that wasn’t going to last forever – I’ve got a lot of growing to do!!!

Well, Mom’s got to get her rest…as do I. So we’ll see you around the web with our next update. Be blogging with you soon!

Plan B – New Year’s 2010

Obviously my friends the Mammary glands didn’t do their job well enough, so we had to move unto more drastic measures. It was approaching the time that Mom needed to know that I was here, so she could begin taking proper care of us.

Plan B, part 1: Mammary glands went into overdrive – no way could she miss this!! And I know she didn't. I sensed/heard when she asked Daddy “Do my boobs look bigger to you”? Well, Daddy, being a gentleman or better yet, knowing there’s no right answer to a question like that – said “No, they look the same”. Well, either he’s blind or he prefers a happy wife, because Mom was definitely packing on some weight and it was all in one place!!!

Plan B, part 2: As mom slept through the night, she rolled over unto her stomach and a shot of pain ran through her boobs. She immediately sat up in bed in shock wondering what happened. I knew it wouldn’t be too long before she figured it all out.

That weekend Mom got the answer to a suspicion that was running through her mind – yup she was pregnant. Prego. Bun in the Oven. In the family way and any other clichéd saying there ever has been. True to her love of suspense and thriller moves, she just couldn’t tell Dad she was pregnant. No, that was too easy, so she devised a plan for him to have to get the pregnancy test and see the results.

Needless to say, he was stunned. Surprise! You’re gonna be a daddy. Really, she almost gave him a heart-attack at the tender age of 3- (what, you think I would divulge my dad’s age? Never! I need to stay on his good side…he’s gonna buy me presents one day :-) )

On January 12, 2010, it was confirmed by the nurse as she nonchalantly told Mom – “Yup, you’re pregnant”. WHEW!!! I thought I would have to resort to drastic measures like nausea and vomiting. Thank goodness she’s clued in now. During the visit, as Dr. Bridges tried to locate me, Mom asks “Where is it?”? IT?! Who are you calling IT, Lady? I see Mom and I are going to have a misunderstanding and we may have to have an intervention!

Well, that’s it for the moment….Be blogging with you soon!

The Holidays 2009: Thanksgiving through New Years Day 2010

Hi folks, it’s been a while since I’ve written but Mom and I have been busy. We’ve got work, school, life….and a whole lot of growing to do. So, it’s time for a little update on my progress. Where oh where did we leave off….ah yes – my journey to earth; here we go.

Well, to be quite honest, not too much was going on with me for those first six weeks. I was getting acclimated to my new, dark, watery surrounds. I started to feel like a fish…quite an interesting way to live, but I was missing air, sky, my fluffy cumulus-nimbus….ah, the good ‘ole days.

While I was just hanging around, Mom was having a ball. From November 20, 2009 through January 1, 2010, Mom was living it up. She kicked it all off with a birthday celebration at The Library and after celebration at Windfall with the NYC Aunties (who shall remain nameless but they know who they are :-) ) Then she was off to Europe for work during Thanksgiving week and having a grand old time as only my Momma can. As most of you know, my Mom Loves to travel, Loves Europe, Loves Food and Wine….so between London, Madrid, Paris, Frankfurt and Milan….she was happier than a pig in mud!!!!

She ate well, and drank even better. Now don’t get me wrong, mom’s not a whino….not by a long shot. But she sure does enjoy the finer things in life – she’s a sucker for a great bottle of red wine: whether it’s a Chilean Malbec, Chateau Margeaux from France, a good Italian Barbarosa, Montelpuciano or Valpolicciano, a Spanish Rioja….you get the drift. You have a great tasting, fruity, full-bodied red, and Mom’s your BFF….until the bottle’s empty. Again, don’t get me wrong, mom’s not a whino, LOL.

But with all that drinking, I was beginning to wonder….Does she even know I exist? Knowing Mom, she would have stopped drinking immediately, if she knew I was baking in the oven. So, I thought I would send her a signal. By Christmas, I was well acquainted with all the organs and the inner-workings of the body. So I reached out to my friends the mammory glands and asked them to give her a little heads up that something’s brewing. Really, she couldn’t miss a sudden growth spurt, now could she!
Wrong!!! For the love of our Father that is Holy, the woman thinks she’s gaining weight because she’s eating too much! Granted it was Christmas, and she did throw down in Boston with the family, (even taking doggie bags back to NJ, LOL) and Grandma H did comment on how much she was eating.. She thought she was getting FAT from overeating and not for the fact that she was feeding me!!! She started making plans for her detox – The Master Cleanse – to jump start her weight loss right after her New Years dinner party. Seems I would have to move on to Plan B.

The Journey Begins - November 2009

Hello my good buddies, it's Baby Smitty again. Now that we're all well acquainted, I thought I would give a little more insight into how I got where I am today. Yes, we all know the story of the birds and the bees, but my journey is a little bit different. OK - here we go.

Time frame - November 2009

So I'm minding my business one day, floating around on a cumulus cloud (they're the best aren't they?! So fluffy and comfortable!) practicing my backstroke - future Olympian that I am - sailing by the pearly gates and saying "what up" to St Peter when my Bwatch starts vibrating. That's like a Swatch you earthlings have excepting it's a B-watch or Birth watch us future babies wear. It signals when it's time to go join our moms and dads. However, mine must have malfunctioned, because, no way should the alarm have gone off.

I float over to see the big man, Father Time, and sure enough, he's eagerly waiting for me. He starts telling me that my flight time has arrived and it's time to get ready for my long journey.

WHOA! Wait a minute! There's no way it's my time! Mom has it all planned out - according to my Bwatch, I'm at least 2 years away from being summoned. Mom has to finish grad school in December 2011, get settled in her new Digital Marketing job and then she'll be ready for me around late 2012 or 2013. That was the plan.....according to Mom.

Well, it seems Dad, had other plans of his own, and apparently Dad scored (no pun intended)!!!!! Round one goes to big Poppa.

With no time to collect anything.....not like I have much personal effects anyway, I hand-in my halo and my wings, return the Bwatch and without any notice I'm hurtling through time and space and heading to Earth.

Next thing I know, I'm....a tadpole. A tadpole? How do I go from being a cute little cherub, to a tadpole?!?!?!?!?!?! I think I'm beginning to understand what the humans mean when they say "life is so unfair"!

Well, that's the first part of the journey. There's more to come but I'm taking a break, lunch is calling....then nap-time.

Talk to you soon!

Introduction....

Hello,

We haven’t had the pleasure of officially meeting, but I’ve heard great things about you. For years I’ve heard you (well some of you anyways, mostly the Dennis Clan) giving mom and dad a hard time because I wasn’t there yet, but I was taking my time….marinating. There’s a lot of planning to do and preparations to make, so I was working on the right time to make my appearance and the time has finally arrived.

Mom and I are just getting to know each other as well, and bonding…lots of bonding. Sometimes, I make her sick, though not intentionally. It’s just that I’m growing quickly, and need to be fed every few hours. So….when, I get a little hungry, and antsy…mom gets sick, and sometimes really sick. We had a little bout with gastroenteritis three weeks ago, (Mom caught it from my god-sister Jeilin), but we’re all good now.

Lots of great things are happening these days. I have eyes, ears, my arms and legs are in and I’m really getting the hang of this swimming thing. I’m going to be in the Olympics one day!!!!!

So, not to make this too long, as we’ll be chatting quite often and I'll share some pics of myself soon. Really, they didn’t capture my best side, but it is what it is. At least you get to see a brief preview until we meet in person later this year. I’m anticipating a grand entrance on August 22, but as these things go….who knows. I might decide to come a little early as I hear the accommodations aren’t the best the older and larger I get. You never know, I might get out early for good behavior!!!

Be seeing and talking to you soon!

Love,
