About Me - Baby Smitty

I'm growing strong and taking charge. As of April 9, 2010, I'm a 10 1/2" long, 14 ounces dude or dudette in training. Mom & Dad tried to figure out that riddle, but I'm not ready to share my secret yet!!! Check back frequently as my stats will be updated on a monthly basis. Since I don't have any usable digits at the moment, my soon to be mom, Kim Dennis Smith, is chronicling my/our adventures on my behalf. You can consider her my "ghost writer".

January & February 2010 – Growing Pains…Or Not…

January passed without much to do about nothing. As long as Mom ate every 3 hours, life was good. When she allegedly forgot (Don’t know how she could!), I would have to show her who’s boss and call in favors from my pals Nausea and Queasiness. They excel at getting anyone's attention!

All in all, she was getting better at being pregnant. I know she was missing her red wine, and salmon – Mom can’t STAND the smell of Salmon being cooked anymore! The night Dad cooked it for dinner was NOT GOOD to say the least. But again, she overcame it and was doing alright.

As I was fast developing, I was really relying on Mom for not only my food source but for energy as well. As a result, Mom’s own energy was being depleted. And the woman who most consider a relative of the Energizer Bunny or as others affectionately call “PERKY”, was running on low. She was sleepy in the afternoons, wanting to take naps, but unfortunately she couldn’t do that at work. Somehow, the amazing MOM powered through it all and would make it home in time to crash in the evenings. Miraculously, somewhere in between all this lack of energy, increased tiredness and naptimes, Mom continued to power through grad school at NYU. What a woman! I just hope I get some of her stamina. :-)

The only bad time during my first 12 weeks in the Uterverse was February 1st – sorry Cousin Chantelle, I know it’s your birthday, but it was a bad day for Mom and I….we ended up in the ER at Robert Wood Johnson, hooked up to an IV after getting two different doses of nausea medicine – who knew it came in liquid form!

Mom had a bad case of Gastroenteritis – which in layman’s terms means she had a bad dose of Montezuma’s revenge (Poop & Puke) without the fun of actually going to Mexico!! As much as I felt bad for Mom, I was really in a bad state. Even though she ate dinner that Sunday night, it never made it to me – though it made a reappearance later on that evening in the guest bathroom!!!

After all the drama of the ER, mom couldn’t eat solid foods for about 3 days. Soup and water became our best friends. We actually lost weight the next time we went to see Dr. Bridges…..but that wasn’t going to last forever – I’ve got a lot of growing to do!!!

Well, Mom’s got to get her rest…as do I. So we’ll see you around the web with our next update. Be blogging with you soon!
